Lawsuit Filed Against Inglewood Unified School District After Bullying Video Incident at Woodworth-Monroe Academy Goes Viral
In Inglewood, CA, Mendez & Sanchez, A.P.C., filed a civil lawsuit in the Los Angeles Supreme Court due to the disturbing event surrounding a 10-year-old student who was violently attacked inside the girls’ restroom at Woodworth-Monroe Academy, which happened on April 30, 2025.
Inglewood Unified School District Allegedly Failed to Enforce Anti-Bullying Policy
The complaint alleges the Inglewood Unified School District failed to intervene and enforce anti-bullying policies despite major prior reports from the child and her family, allowing the assault to occur and be recorded and spread on social media. The mother of the 10-year-old child is speaking out and telling how these girls were bullying not only her daughter but both of them due to her father’s passing away.
“Ever since my husband passed away, they’ve been bullied, telling them, ‘oh, your dad died hahaha’. It’s so funny to them,” Hernandez said.
The mother also showed the report she filed with the Inglewood Unified School District Police, dating back to December 2023, reporting bullying against her daughters. Also, according to the report, one girl was forced to eat hot chili peppers, and another incident where the girls had milk and water thrown at them as they were walking to get picked up by their grandma.
Despite the complaints, no meaningful steps were taken to protect her, discipline the aggressors, or increase supervision in high-risk areas such as restrooms and highways. And this has come after Alondra reported bullying and harassment to teachers, staff, and local authorities before the April 30th attack. It seemed like the same group of kids who threw water and milk at the two sisters.
“Schools have a non-negotiable duty to protect the children entrusted to them,” said Brittany Farias, attorney for the family. “The Inglewood Unified School District ignored clear warning signs and allowed a preventable, filmed assault to happen on campus. No parent should have their child be brutalized at school and then re-victimized online.”
